Hooey releases album, gets botox
It’s been a big month for the Southerners’ own part-time model/clown/rockstar/halfback/ inspirational educator of small children, Damian J. Hoo.
Not only has he released his debut album, The Spectrum, including the hit Thai single “Still missing you”, but he has also undergone the start of a rigourous regime of botox injections in a bid to maintain his rockstar looks ahead of his upcoming European tour.

“Damian’s always been an outstanding musical phenomenon,” Aussie music icon, Bangkok publican and eternal Hoo fan, Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum said. “Hearing the album for the first time, I actually thought it was one of those charity compilations by disadvantaged and retarded children. It wasn’t until listening to it again I realised it was the real deal, with a lyrical depth not heard since the Spice Girls,” Meldrum continued.
Hoo prepares for his upcoming European Tour.
“You don’t often see such raw talent producing such an epic debut album. I thought the Australian public got it horribly wrong when they made him the first evictee of Big Brother 2002. I know from people close to Damian that the ensuing years forced him into a time of deep internal reflection and emotional reckoning, which you can really hear through his touching lyrics and killer, dramatic riffs. An emo-hemotoma, such as his Big Brother eviction, is what every artist goes through and what drives them toward their musical greatness,” said Meldrum.
From the Korean-themed rock bars of Bangkok’s RCA district, through to some of the city’s live performance venue stalwarts, such as the ‘Mojos’ bar on Soi 33 and Rooftop on Khao San Road (site of the official album launch), Hoo and his album The Spectrum have enjoyed fanatical support not seen since Michael Jackson thrusted his crotch upon the Krung Thep crowds as part of his ‘Dangerous’ tour in August ’93.
Khun Tuk, Executive Director of Customer Relations at Mojos, recalls one night in 2009 when Hoo delighted guests with an impromptu performance. “Guy with grasses broke my band’s guitar string. Kept praying Guns and Roses, then walk out without pay bin. I hope he make lot of money so he come back and pay his bin.”
Hoo will be starting his European tour in early July, kicking off in London, UK, then into Germany where he has amassed a cult following.
