Saturday 25th at Polo saw the second Colonel’s Cup played between Southerners and Siam CC. Sent into bat first and guided by a solid 60 runs from skipper Vaughany, the Southerners compiled 6-166 off their allotted 35 overs. Good support by Doug Kinsella and Shane Thompson by chipping in a 30 odd and 20 odd respectively. Memories of last year flooded back with Siam putting up a 100 opening partnership with Justin scoring a well deserved 62, and the Man of Match award, though a few quick wickets had the game evenly poised throughout the final overs. It wasn’t to be again for the Southerners though with the Parrots knocking off the winning runs in the 34th over to win and regain the Colonel’s Cup. A great effort all round by the Southerners which included several members of the 3s who all excelled in the higher grade.

After a few Crownies to wash the dust away and a few Parrot Slammers, a gentle procession ensured back to the Robin Hood for some after match grub and summaries and then it was onto the Parrots clubhouse to further the after match banter and for the Southerners yet again to painfully see the Colonel’s Cup back inside the wrong trophy cabinet.

Again, great effort by the Southerners and a spirited game played in the “farang” way!
