Let’s support a fellow Southerner Renee Kieseker in this noble cause.
After having fun (!) running the half marathon at Angkor Wat last year, I decided to tick off a bucket list idea and apply for the New York City marathon. Most people have to wait a few years to get in, as nearly a million people apply for the chance to run with 48,000, through the five boroughs of New York. Amazingly I found out in April I had been picked and would run the 42km’s in November. After much discussion and research with my mum, who is funding my trip to the Big Apple, we decided I should run for a cause and we chose the Cancer Council Australia.
Mum has been fighting cancer since 2006 and we’ve come to learn that Mum’s head and neck cancer is a tough one to beat. More research is needed to provide effective treatment for this cancer. More research is needed to beat all forms of cancer.
The Cancer Council uses its funds not only for research, but public awareness and improving patient care and support. Mum has met some amazing people during her battle with this monster. To all those that held her hand when she was scared and when she felt like giving up, thank you.
Mum & I are asking you to support me in my run in New York with a donation to the Cancer Council – if you can spare a few bucks or Baht.
42kms is nothing compared to what mum has endured.
Sadly Mum lost her battle in June, so now I will be running for her, and I know she will be with me every step of the way on that cold Sunday morning in NYC.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
Renee
